THE NORTH OVER THE VOID

And hangeththe earth upon nothing.”

Pursue Inevitability.

Reverse that which never existed.

Look into a glass, darkly, or look through it.

Enter the transcendent Zero through the door of humility, releasing the bonds of dogmatic lethargy.

Extract existence from chaos, transform nonexistence into existence—and vice versa.

Consider the One of whom one has only heard in passing.

Of the One Who spread the North over the Void.

About Project

The photo project “The North Over the Void” features photographs by Adomas Dombrauskas, a Lithuanian photographer living in Russia’s Far East.

According to the artist, the line between photography and poetry is blurred for him, and he expresses the artistic images and concepts he develops in his creative research both visually and verbally. In his presentations, Adomas often recommends “reading” his photographs, and sometimes even “listening” to them. Adomas’s style can be classified as conceptual or metaphysical photography in the style of “new pictorialism.”

Some of the works presented in the project were shot using an experimental technique he discovered in 2020, which he dubbed “apocalypse”. The essence of this technique involves the use of inversion with an “inverted” lighting scheme and subsequent computer processing, which allows for the simulation of an object’s “inside out” effect, revealing to the viewer the image’s internal structure and its hidden meanings. These include: “Apocalypse Yesterday”, “Affect”, “Remembrance of What Never Was”, “Erbarme dich”, “Ecstasy”, “Prejudice”, “Transcendent Zero”, “Dialogue”, and “Shabbat Sonata”.

The remaining photographs were taken without significant computer intervention, using a variety of original lighting techniques and compositional solutions.
